Taylor Reed is in her fifth season as an assistant basketball coach at Houston Christian University after her playing career at Louisiana Tech.
Prior to Louisiana Tech, Reed played basketball at Hutchinson Community College, where she took many aspects to coaching with her.
“The biggest thing that I take into the coaching world that they taught me was the importance of structure, skill development, and defense,” Reed said. “I truly felt that I became a better basketball player during my time with the women’s basketball team and that they developed me as a player to help prepare me for the next level. I take great pride in finding ways to develop the student-athletes that come into our program and help them become better during their time at HCU, just like my coaches did for me.”
As a sophomore at HCC, Reed played on the Blue Dragons team that made the National Tournament. She also was a part of two league championship teams.
More than that, she made bonds that will last a lifetime.
“Some of my best friends today are the ones that I met during my time at Hutch,” Reed said. “It’s a different kind of bond that was created with so many people that I cherish and still keep in touch with to this day.”
Reed said that any student or student-athlete interested in Hutchinson Community College would have no regrets in being a Blue Dragon.
“Attending HCC truly changed my life,” Reed said. “The education that I got prepared me well for my 4-year university and I always felt challenged and well prepared by my professors that I had. I felt that everyone on campus cared about their job and that they wanted the best for all their students.”
