Tonight’s Wichita-area high school football games (Oct. 25)

By Blake Chadwick
Once again, the Derby Panthers took care of business, winning 51-7 over the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles on Friday.

Thanks to talent in all three phases this year, the Panthers will go into the playoffs as a team who is probably the freshest out of any other team. The Derby defense only gave up 44 points the entire regular season, the offense was able to fire on all cylinders game in and game out, and the starters for the Panthers didn’t find themselves playing many second-half minutes.

Quarterback Drew Kemp completed 15 of 20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 79 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Arieus Finley had 14 carries for 127 yards and two touchdowns. James Middlebrook returned a Carroll punt 60 yards for a touchdown.

Derby locked up the top seed in the west in Class 6A.

Andale took care of the previously undefeated Hesston Swathers 60-14.

The Indians finish undefeated once again.

Wichita Northwest gave Eisenhower its second straight loss of the season, winning 31-28.

The Grizzlies are 7-1.

Conway Springs moved to 8-0 after beating South Sumner 42-20. Logan Osner had 13 carries for 144 yards and four touchdowns, while Grant Fisher had 13 carries for 187 yards and a touchdown.

Andover Central finished its season beating rival Andover 31-13.

After a 44-8 win over Ellsworth, Southeast-Saline is 8-0.

Cheney bounced back after its loss to Collegiate to improve 7-1 after beating Pratt 28-26.

Haven finished the regular season at 7-1 after a 39-6 win over Kingman.

Buhler won its rivalry game against McPherson 28-21 to improve to 6-2.

Hutchinson gave Maize South its third straight loss with a 42-20 win to improve to 6-2.

Kapaun Mount Carmel improved to 6-2 with a 56-0 win over Wichita Heights.

The Maize Eagles ended the regular season on a high note, winning their last four, including their regular-season finale 57-0 over Salina South.
