For Hayden Green, growth this track and field season isn’t just measured in feet — it’s rooted in refinement.
Green, a thrower for Udall, made technique his top priority entering the year, focusing on the smaller details that can lead to big results in the discus ring.
“My primary focus was improving my technique,” Green said. “I wanted to accomplish beating the school record and returning to state.”
That attention to detail has already paid off. Green has recorded a throw of 142 feet this season, surpassing his previous personal-best mark of 138 feet, which he set at the state meet a year ago while placing seventh.
While the numbers show clear progress, Green believes his biggest strengths go beyond distance.
“I consider my strengths to be ability to show up in big moments and keeping a good mentality during competition,” he said.
That mindset has been a key part of his development, especially in a sport where consistency and composure are critical. Green spent the offseason sharpening both his physical and mental approach, focusing on explosiveness and repeatable mechanics.
“I have been working on my cues and positioning throughout the throw,” he said. “During the offseason I worked primarily on being more explosive and consistent with my throws.”
As the season continues, Green’s goals extend beyond individual success. He’s aiming to contribute to a strong showing for Udall as a team, particularly when it matters most.
“A successful season would be me and several of my teammates hitting big PRs and competing in state this year,” he said.
