Wamego’s Conner Blume – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by KTAG

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Wamego HS?

Connor Blume: I love the small community and the people that I’m surrounded with. I know I have a great supporting cast between my friends, teammates, coaches and teachers.

VYPE: What’s your favorite subject in school and do you have a favorite teacher?

CB: I enjoy math class, and I would say my math teacher Mr. Koch is my favorite teacher. He really helps me understand the material and I can always have a conversation with him.

VYPE: What grade are you in and what position do you play?

CB: I’m a senior and I play catcher and outfield.

VYPE: Which teammate always impresses you the most or do you have a former teammate who left an impression on you?

CB: My former teammate Thomas McIntyre was a great competitor. He always was focused and wanted to win at everything.  He pushed me to get better at practice every day and he turned me into a better competitor and ball player.

VYPE: What do you tell yourself when you’re at the plate?

CB: With less than two strikes, I tell myself to find my pitch and do damage. Two-strike counts; I tell myself to foul off anything close to stay alive in the at bat.

VYPE: What’s your favorite pitch to hit?

CB: My favorite pitch to hit is an inside fastball so I can really turn on it.

VYPE: Steal a base or knock a double, which do you prefer?

CB: Knocking a double.

VYPE: What is your favorite pre-game and post-game meal?

CB: I don’t have a particular pre-game meal that is my favorite. I usually just eat something high in carbs that isn’t too heavy. Post-game meal is something high in protein that will fill me up.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

CB: I like to hunt and fish and occasionally golf during the offseason.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

CB: I will be playing baseball at D3 Central College in Pella, Iowa after I graduate. I would like to study engineering and business while at Central. I hope to play baseball as long as possible after high school.
