Wichita Southeast senior Alina Lam enters her final high school golf season with high expectations and a clear goal: finish her career among the best golfers in Kansas.
Lam is coming off a season in which she won the Greater Wichita Athletic League championship and finished fourth at the Class 6A state tournament. Her performance also earned her first-team All-6A recognition, establishing her as one of the top high school golfers in the state.
Now, Lam is looking to build on that success while competing against some of the strongest golfers Kansas has to offer.
“I am most excited about my senior season and having the opportunity to play against some of the best girls in Kansas,” Lam said. “After having a strong junior season, I am excited to build on that success and finish my high school career on a strong note.”
Lam spent the offseason preparing for her senior campaign by staying active in competitive golf. She played in numerous summer tournaments while continuing to practice and work on different areas of her game.
“During the offseason, I have been focused on staying consistent with my golf game and playing in many summer tournaments,” Lam said. “I’ve spent time practicing, playing competitive rounds, and working on the different parts of my game so I can be ready to perform throughout the season.”
One of Lam’s biggest areas of focus has been her short game. She has worked on her chipping, pitching and putting in an effort to become more consistent around the greens.
“I know improving my short game can help me save strokes and make a difference in close tournaments,” Lam said.
With another season of experience and a strong offseason behind her, Lam’s individual goals are centered on continuing to establish herself as one of Kansas’ top high school golfers.
Her goal is to compete at her best throughout the season and finish with strong performances at the biggest tournaments, including the state championship.
“Individually, my goal is to continue establishing myself as one of the top high school golfers in Kansas, compete to the best of my ability, and finish my senior season with strong performances at the biggest events,” Lam said.
