Friday’s basketball recaps: Andover Central boys, girls beat Maize South

In the season opener, Andover Central boys raced to a 15-point first-quarter lead over visiting Maize  South en route to a 70-49 victory.

Xavier Bell scored a game-high 25 point, while Matt Macy added 11 points, Jerome Washington 10 and Kaden Wilson 10.

Maize South was led by Ben Crowell’s 15 points on five three-pointers, while Trey Reid had 13.

Campus beat Salina South 79-54 and was led by Sterling Chapman’s 16 points, Shawn Warrior’s 14 and Keither Florence’s 10. Thomas King added 12 rebounds and nine points. The Colts outrebounded Salina South 49-21.

Salina South was led by Devon Junghans with 17 points, while Josh Jordan had 15.

West beat Heights 45-26. West was led by Hezekiah Washington’s 15 points, while Jaylin Henderson had 14.

Eli Wiseman had 35 points in Belle Plaine‘s 67-64 double-overtime win over Hillsboro.

Jordan Vincent had 36 points to lead Eisenhower to an 88-83 win over Newton.

Andover beat McPherson 82-63, hitting 15 of 24 from three-point range. Jack Johnson hit 6 o f 8 from three and had a team-high 20 points. Kaleb Gaddis had 15 points, Jack Taylor 15, Harper Jonas 12 and Cade Gehring 10.

Seth Madron had a team-high 21 points for McPherson, while Cody Stufflebean and Jayton Alexander each added 11.

Rose Hill beat Circle 62-56 and Koby Campbell finished with 31.

Augusta beat Mulvane 62-29. Trey Abasolo had 17 points for Mulvane.

Oxford beat Fairfield  62-32 with Andrew Hills leading the way with 28 points for Oxford. Andrew Schulte added 11.

GIRLS

Andover Central girls beat visiting Maize South 53-41. The Jaguars took a 21-5 lead.

Freshman Maddi Amekporfor had a team-high 15 points, while Ellie Stears had 12 and Bailey Wilborn had 10.

Katie Wagner had a game-high 28 points for Maize South.

Salina South beat Campus 47-40. Freshman Acacia Weis had 14 points, Mariah Janda had 11 and Victoria Maxton finished with 12 rebounds.

McPherson beat Andover 62-20.

Kassidy Beam, Grace Pyle, Andrea Sweat and Cassie Cooks scored in double figures. Beam had a game-high 17 points, while Pyle had 13, Sweat 10 and Cooks 12. Pyle added 11 rebounds.

Garden Plain’s Kennedy Horacek had 15 points in the 51-50 win over Trinity Academy. Trinity Academy’s Austin Broade had 24 points

Kimalee Cook had 16 for Circle, while Mallory Cowman had 15 in the Thunderbirds’ 61-24 win over Rose Hill.

Cheney‘s Kylee Scheer had 29 points in the 51-16 win over Conway Springs.

Haven beat Hutch Trinity 42-28 with Faith Paramore scoring 20 points.  Hailey Hughes had 10 for Hutch Trinity

Abilene beat Smoky Valley 41-40.

Smoky Valley was led by Ellie Brumbaugh’s 12 points and Breanna Priddy’s 10.

Salina Central beat Goddard 46-40. Goddard’s Kade Hackerott had 23 points, while Brooke Sullivan had 13.

Aubrie Kierscht led Salina Central with 22.

Clearwater beat Labette County 49-37 with Kyndall Clevenger and Carli Carlson both scoring 13 points.
