Heights’ Evan Jensen concerned he could miss final season

While Heights junior Evan Jensen ranks golf as his third-favorite sport, he was saddened to miss the season due to COVID-19. The Kansas State High School Activities Association canceled all spring sports due to the pandemic.

“I was pretty disappointed,” said Jensen, who also swims and plays soccer. “It’s not the sport I care about the most, but it’s a fun time playing golf with your friends after school and going to tournaments.”

Jensen started taking lessons in seventh grade and went out for the team his freshman season.

In his first tournament, a nine-hole freshman tourney, he was in last place.

But as a sophomore, he qualified for the Class 5A tournament.

“The last two tournaments last year were my best golf,” Jensen said. “Then I played all summer. I got a little better. We moved up to 6A, so it was going to be a little easier for us to qualify as a team for state. It would have been better to go as a full team.”

The spring club soccer season was also canceled due to COVID-19, and that has Jensen worried.

“I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my senior soccer season. I’d be heartbroken,” he said. “I’ve been playing since I was a little kid, and I’ve been looking to my senior season. We’ve got a good chance to win the City (League) championship and maybe even more.”
