Salina Central’s Brooks Burgoon – Athlete of the Month Presented By Salina Imaging Center, LLC

Salina Central High School’s Brooks Burgoon plays outside linebacker for the football team, wrestles in the winter and plays on the tennis
team. Always active, Burgoon started playing football at a very young age.

“I started playing flag football in first grade and then started contact football in fourth grade,” said Burgoon.

Before his freshman season, Burgoon broke his arm in summer league wrestling. That break helped discover a possible Ewing sarcoma, which is a cancerous tumor that grows in the bones or tissue around bone. Burgoon went through surgery at KU Medical where they determined it was a unicameral bone cyst. Despite not being cleared to play, Burgoon went to every practice during football and wrestling
season his freshman year. Playing on Friday night has a different meaning for Burgoon.

“I love going out on the field on Friday nights knowing my teammates have my back. I also love flying around making plays with them.

Everybody is committed and bought in to Mustang football,” said Burgoon.

He’s also a three-year honor roll member and a National Honor Society member.

“Salina Central is such a great school to be a part of because they offer a lot of opportunities and the teachers create a great learning environment,” said Burgoon.
