2022 Class 3A State Football Championship Recap (Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy)

Class 3A heavyweight Andale won the state championship on Saturday completing its four-peat and pushing their win streak to 51 games.

The Indians faced off against Holton, handling them 28-0.

“There are always different obstacles that you have to overcome throughout the season, but to have a group of kids that never lost a high school game in their careers, that is very special,” Andale coach Dylan Schmidt said.

For Andale, the players in the program come to work every day, which is why they go in and expect to win every game.

“We truly believed that the only team that could beat Andale was ourselves,” Schmidt said. “So as long as we were putting in the work every day and attacking the process the results would follow.”

Coming into the state championship game, Schmidt stated that Andale needed to “win the turnover margin, win the field position battle on special teams, run the football and play great defense” in order to secure their fourth straight state championship.

All areas were called upon early in the game for the Indians after a touchdown from quarterback Wyatt Spexarth to wide receiver Riley Marx put the Indians up – then they would get the ball back, fumble, and need a huge red zone stop to drain the momentum from Holton.

That would be all Holton could bring to the table as the will of the Indians was just too much for them to handle.

Andale took a 22-0 halftime lead after touchdowns on the ground from Spexarth and running back Cody Parthemer.

The game was sealed with an Owen Eck touchdown to go up 28-0, and the celebration began.

“Winning four feels great,” Schmidt said. “It was a very rewarding year.”
