Abilene’s Caden Powell – Cabela’s “Call of the Wild” Salina Area Outdoors Spotlight

Caden Powell is a junior at Abilene High School who is currently involved in band, jazz band, and National Honor Society. Powell said that he enjoys playing an instrument because it allows him to learn more about music. He also plays baseball in the spring, which he has been doing since he was five years old in tee-ball.

Another facet of Powell’s personality is his love for the outdoors.

“I enjoy hunting and fishing because it allows me to go out and be surrounded by nature,” he said. “Because I have been hunting and fishing, I have been able to see many things in nature that I would not otherwise have been able to see. The outdoors is where most of my time is spent outside of school, from working on the farm, to hunting and fishing, I enjoy being outdoors when I can.”

Powell’s father is a role model in his life, and has taught him many valuable things.

“I look up to my dad because he has taught me a lot about life, such as how to push myself in sports and school activities,” he said. “He also has helped me in learning important life skills including hunting, fishing, woodwork, cooking, and overall many other things that are needed in everyday life.”

Powell strives to do his best in whatever he does in order to make those around him proud. He wants his hard work to speak for itself.

“I am motivated by my friends and family encouraging me,” he said. “I also work to be my best, because I know that hard work can only make you better.”

After high school Powell is planning to attend Kansas State University and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
