Andover High School – ICT Cheer Legacy Team of the Month

Head coach Kristina Endicott has called Andover High School home for a total of seven years, coaching the cheer squad with co-head coach Jessica Vandine.

“Jessica Vandine coached gymnastics for five years and has been judging competitive gymnastic meets for five years. Fun fact, we cheered together at Wichita State, so we go way back,” said Endicott.

Endicott said the eight seniors on the team helped set the example by being flexible while bringing leadership to the team.

“We have enjoyed seeing the positivity and hard work that each girl puts in. We have tried to create an environment where each team member feels valued and is encouraged to do their best and try new things. We love seeing the team build each other up and striving to improve their skills,” said Endicott. “We are proud of all the flexibility, positivity, and always improving our skills. It has been a tough year, but the girls are willing to step into different roles and try new things in order to help their team. We push them to be their best selves and when we challenge them to give us more, they rise up.”

That flexibility was important as the coaching staff dealt with the problems of competing during a pandemic.

“One major challenge we have faced is trying to work on a routine or build stunt groups while having people in and out of quarantine. The team has really adapted well to the challenges we faced with masks and social distancing, and we just make the best of the situation,” said Endicott. “Luckily, we were able to still stunt this year as that is a huge part of cheer for us, and we have so much talent, so we are grateful we are able to show those skills and hard work.”
