Ryan Petty was named the new head boys basketball coach at Augusta yesterday, replacing Jake Sims, who moved into an administrative role in the district.
Petty had spent the three previous seasons as the head coach at Liberal, where the Redskins went 27-37. He also spent four years as an assistant at Liberal. Prior to that, Petty spent time as an assistant at Lansing and Gardner-Edgerton.
The Orioles are coming off back-to-back Final Four appearances at the 4A Tournament, including a runner-up finish in 2019. While it loses leading scorers Zach Davidson and Jaren Jackson, Augusta returns several varsity contributors.
“Coach Petty’s vision for the program really stood out,” Augusta Athletic Director, Travis Olive, said in an email. “His ability to build relationships with his athletes and his commitment to the game made him a great fit for our program. I’m confident we are getting a great coach who will continue to build on our basketball program’s recent success.”
