Canton-Galva’s Brecken Pearson – Student of the Month Presented By Advanced Physical Therapy

On Canton-Galva High School sophomore Brecken Pearson is a member of the volleyball, softball and cheer teams. As a three-sport athlete, Pearson like many of her teammates, experience nagging injuries that occur throughout the year. Recently Pearson experienced what is known as GIRD and bursitis in her right shoulder. GIRD or Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit is a condition common in pitchers and
those who throw a lot. The loss of internal rotation requires physical therapy which Pearson received at Advanced PT.

“My experience at Advanced PT has been really good. They are all very nice and have helped gain mobility and strength back in my shoulder,” said Pearson.

The bursitis is an inflammation that can cause swelling and worsen over time. Overuse of the arm and a repetitive throwing motion is a common cause. With physical therapy, Pearson is getting better with each treatment and is close to being back at 100 percent.

“I am about 80 percent and in a couple weeks I can start setting and I will still have to work on getting back to full overhead activity for volleyball and softball,” said Pearson. “Getting to know the people and learning about the different techniques and exercise to help me get better.”

Continuing to play and be there for her teammates is important to Pearson. Returning to competition is something she is looking forward to doing soon.

Even though she is only a sophomore, Pearson is thinking ahead to her life after high school and what that will look like, which will include attending college and possibly playing at the next level.

“Right now, I would like to go to college and major in accounting. I would also like to participate in softball, volleyball, or cheer in college if the opportunity presents itself,” said Pearson.

Look for Pearson to overcome this setback with the help of Advanced PT and a desire to compete for Canton-Galva High School and her teammates.
