Chaparral High School, Tipton Francis – Driving Change Athlete of the Month Presented By Kansas Turnpike Authority

By Matt Browning

Tipton Francis of Chaparral was chosen as the Driving Change Athlete of the Month for September. Francis is involved in the following clubs: class president, student council member, National Honor Society officer, Key Club member, and pep club member. She is also in tennis, track, cheer and competitive dance.

“Maintaining a balance between school and activities is definitely a challenge, but I have an amazing family that supports me and helps me accomplish everything I have committed myself to,” Francis said. “My parents prioritize faith and family life at home, providing balance and stability for busy seasons. Being at a smaller school also makes managing multiple sports and activities much easier; coaches encourage involvement and are supportive of multi-sport athletes.”

Francis has felt a shift in the attitude and spirit at Chaparral and she feels like it sets an example for the freshman class each year.

“I honestly enjoy exerting a positive influence and helping lead my student body,” Francis said. “Involvement in multiple activities sets an example for underclassmen and the junior high because it displays school pride and the fact that it is possible to cultivate many interests. Not only does being involved set a positive example, but it also provides a familiar face around the building.”

Francis is not sure what college she will be attending, but is interested in running track or dancing. She would like to pursue a degree in accounting.
