Dan Adelhardt out as Kapaun football coach

By Joanna Chadwick

On Wednesday, Kapaun Mount Carmel announced via a press release that there will be a “change in leadership” in the football program.

Dan Adelhardt coached Kapaun for 15 seasons and led the Crusaders to the Class 5A semifinals in 2013. Kapaun was 2-7 this season.

According to the press release, Kapaun president Rob Knapp announced an immediate start to a coaching search.

“We want to thank the coaches for their dedication to the Crusader football program,” Knapp said in the press release. “We also want to reassure the Kapaun Mt. Carmel community of our commitment to the legacy of KMC athletes.”

Adelhardt texted a statement that he was asked to resign or be fired on Nov. 14. He chose to be fired.

“I made the choice to model for my players, my students and my son the strength of living the character and values for which I have always taught them,” Adelhardt wrote. “For me, resigning equates to quitting and was, therefore, not an option.”

He wrote that he will continue as a teacher at Kapaun.
