Kingman’s Marissa DeWeese – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Steamatic

The emphasis this season for Kingman track athlete Marissa DeWeese has been getting out of the blocks quickly.

Her results speak for themselves as she has finished in the top six at every meet in the 200 and in the top three in the 100 at every meet.

“Coach Hageman has been big on us getting out of the blocks quick and aggressive,” DeWeese said. “We have worked on our first three steps out of the blocks a lot this season. I think this has helped me improve in the 100 the most.”

DeWeese, who is a two-time state qualifier, has saved her best for last this season. She has numerous personal records and has no complaints about her performances. “This year I have consistently run the 100, 200, 4×1, and 4×4,” DeWeese said. “I have been very pleased with our results. I have PR-ed in the 100 two weeks in a row and I have consistently placed in the 200. Our 4×1 has been consistent by nearing our school record, which we broke last year.”

While there are plenty of special moments this season, ones where DeWeese has experienced success, there is one memory that stands out above the rest and that was the league meet.

“I was pretty nervous to run the 4×4 because I knew we needed a good time going into regionals,” DeWeese said. “My previous splits in the 4×4 had been around a 1:05-1:06. I knew in order to run a good time, I needed to get out fast for a good 200 and finish the second 200 with all I had left. We ended up running a season-best by four seconds of 4:18 and I ran a 1:02.89 split. Everyone on the team ran a well and it made me that much more excited for regionals. This was definitely a core high school memory.”
