On Monday afternoon, The Kansas State High School Activities Association’s Executive Board approved an alternate fall season in the spring for schools that have canceled fall sports.
The proposal will go before KSHSAA’s Board of Directors Friday at 3 pm.
Some details from the proposal include:
-No state championships for schools that would participate in the spring. Each sport would end with a league or district championship. There would be no football playoffs
-Competitions would mostly be compromised of fellow league schools. Some exceptions could be approved.
-Transfer students during the 2020-2021 school year would not be eligible to compete.
-Each sport has a maximum number of competitions they could compete in the fall in order to be eligible for the spring competition: football (5), volleyball (20), soccer (9), golf (5), tennis (5) and cross country (4)
-There would potentially be some overlap to the end of the winter sports season (if it starts on time) and this alternate season. The spring sports season would be delayed slightly.
Last week, USD 259 school board voted to move grades 6-12 to online learning for the first nine weeks of the season, which canceled fall sports.
