McPherson’s Emily Whorton – Student of the Month Presented By Advanced Physical Therapy

When Trey Harris entered his sophomore Student-athletes face all types of challenges in high school. From something as simple as keeping up with homework to things a lot more challenging such as injuries. McPherson High School student-athlete Emily Whorton faced one of those challenges last year when she injured her leg. Missing her entire sophomore year, Whorton has worked hard with the help of Advanced PT to get back to action for her junior year.

Whorton is a member of the varsity basketball team where she plays guard and she’s a member of the track team competing in multiple
events including the 400-meters, high jump, and the 4X400 relay. Whorton was a state qualifier in the 400 and 4X400 relay.

Advanced PT began the physical therapy process after Whorton was injured on the basketball court. It was an ordinary play, something that happens multiple times a game. When Whorton was fouled driving to the basket, a problem was revealed with the foot forcing Whorton to undergo mid-foot fusion.

After a successful surgery, Whorton faced 14 months of rehab before getting a full release to participate in athletics. Whorton buckled down, faced the challenge and went to work. With the help of Advacned PT, Whorton has made huge gains and even enjoyed some of the work it took to get there.

“My favorite service was regaining full mobility and balance,” said Whorton.

Significant gains have been made and Whorton is hopeful she will return to the court soon.

“The biggest hope is full range of motion returning to my left foot and leg,” said Whorton.

With the help of Advanced PT, McPherson family behind her and a determination to return to the sport she loves, Whorton is on track for
a full recovery.
