Week 1 Postseason football scores/recap (Oct. 29)

As the road to the Kansas football state championships looms closer, teams are fighting for their shot to etch their names in history.


In the game of the night, Bishop Carroll found itself in a tough matchup against Hutchinson. 

The Salthawks controlled the Eagles for most of the game as Carroll, which lost its regular-season finale to East, trailed by 14 at one point.  

Hutchinson all but had the win late in the fourth quarter. But after a stop and a miraculous 4th and 17 conversion by Chase Smarsh and Tim Helton, the Eagles would go down to score and take the game into OT. 

Hutchinson would have a crack at trying to win the game, but after a bad snap on a pivotal 4th and 5, Carroll marched into field goal range and senior Micheal Polley hit the walk-off field goal, sending Carroll to the second round. 

Carroll is 7-2, while Hutch finishes at 4-5.


The undefeated Class 6A favorites Derby moves onto the second round with a 63-9 win over Wichita Southeast. 

Junior running back Dylan Edwards scored on the game’s first play and had 166 tidjomh ustfd smf three touchdowns.


Maize took care of Newton 39-9 and will play Bishop Carroll next week. Maize is 7-2.


The Class 4A favorite Andale stayed unbeaten and handily beat Hugoton 53-2. 

Gage Prosser ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns. 


Kapaun continued its winning ways with a 35-3 win over Goddard, improving to 8-1.

The Crusaders will take on Maize South in the second round. 


Wichita Northwest obliterated Valley Center 63-0 to continue its quest to another 5A state championship game. Northwest is 7-2 and has won six straight.


Wichita East continued its hot streak with a 24-7 win over Garden City. East, which is 6-3, has won five straight.

The Blue Aces have a date with Derby next week to try and upset the Panthers. 


Andover beat Salina South 51-21 to improve to 7-2.

The Trojans will now take on Hays after Hays escaped a close one against Goddard Eisenhower in a 19-13 win on Thursday. 


Salina Central advances to next Friday with a win over Liberal. The Mustangs are 7-2 and have won six straight.


Maize South ended a three-game losing skid to beat Heights 48-21. Evan Cantu had 403 rushing yards and five touchdowns.


Unbeaten Wichita Collegiate bounces back with a 23-8 win over Pratt. Junior quarterback Wesley Fair had 119 passing yards and 133 rushing yards in the victory.


Harrison Voth and the Cheney Cardinals, who are unbeaten, won 48-14 over Clearwater. 

Voth tossed five touchdowns. The Cardinals will take on Collegiate next Friday. 


Mulvane pushes its winning streak to seven after a 46-16 win over Ulysses

Mason Ellis had four touchdowns and an interception to lead the Wildcats. 


Conway Springs beat Sacred Heart 68-0.

Izic Billups ran for two touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns on their way to win.
