After an exciting first week of high school football, the weekend took a unique turn when the Andover Central vs. Buhler game was canceled due to a positive covid-19 test by one of the Andover Central players.

The game of the week was Kapaun Mount Carmel and first-year coach Weston Schartz vs. Bishop Carroll. Both were 1-0, and no surprise, the game went right down to the wire.

For Carroll, senior running back Hunter Trail had a huge game with three touchdowns. The Golden Eagles took the 31-28 lead and then recovered a Kapaun fumble in the final seconds of the game.

Carroll has now won 21 straight against Kapaun and moves to 2-0.

Maize South took care of business on the road against Salina South, winning 62-6. RB Hunter Niemman led the way with three rushing touchdowns. Maize South is now 2-0.

Maize (2-0)  also came out victorious in its 41-14 win over Campus after another strong game from senior running back Josh Sanders and sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson.

Cheney asserted its dominance over the Belle Plaine Dragons 54-7 and advanced to 2-0. Cheney’s Quincy Thomas had six total touchdowns while Harrison Voth threw three touchdowns.

Andover evens out their record at 1-1 after a 21-0 win over Ark City.

McPherson beat Circle 41-0. McPherson is now 2-0.

Andale dominated Mulvane 63-0, with Eli Rowland leading the way with 84 rushing yards. He was one of five players with 50 or more rushing yards. Andale moves to 2-0.

Derby bounced back from its 31-point loss to Mill Valley that ended the Panthers’ 26-game winning streak. The Panthers held off an improved Newton team 43-31 as sophomore running back Dylan Edwards contributed with three touchdowns. Derby is now 1-1.

Hutchinson advances to 2-0 after a comeback victory 21-20. The Salthawks were down 13-0 at one point.

Eisenhower earned its first win of the year by beating Salina Central 45-42 in overtime, thanks to Carlos Vidrio’s 21-yard field goal. Salina Central led 21-0.

Wichita Collegiate improved to 2-0 with a 56-3 win over Wellington. The Spartans had another dominating performance for sophomore Wesley Fair as he went on to have two touchdowns, with 110 rushing yards and 98 passing. He also excelled on the defensive end, getting an interception. Senior Jacob Chugg also impressed with three touchdowns and 156 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Clearwater is 2-0 after a 42-20 win over Rose Hill.

Garden Plain won 14-0 over Sterling. Reed Adelhardt led Garden plain with 145 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Hesston beat Hillsboro 44-39 and is 2-0.

Goddard is 2-0 after a 30-20 win over Valley Center.
