Week 2: Football scores and recaps

Andover Central held off Buhler 21-19 to improve to 2-0.

Kai Kunz led Andover Central with 163 passing yards, hitting Ashton Barkdull twice for 64 yards, while Brock Stupka had three catches for 60 yards.

Cooper Tabor, who had six receptions, had two rushes for 104 yards. Barkdull had 24 carries for 74 yards and Tayten Edenfield had 64 yards.

Nate Peak led the Jaguars with five tackles and three assists.

Andover Central is 2-0, while Buhler is 1-1.

Derby’s senior quarterback Mercer Thatcher, in his first start, took the game’s first play 60 yards, scoring the first touchdown on fourth and goal.

Thatcher had 131 rushing yards on 10 carries.

The Panthers cruised to a 50-17 win over Newton, getting three touchdowns from junior running back Dylan Edwards and two from sophomore back Derek Hubbard.

Edwards finished with 291 rushing yards on 25 carries.

Derby is 1-0.

Kapaun Mount Carmel’s possession was extended after a pass interference call, and then tied the score at 22-all after going for two with 7:37 to go.

The Crusaders took the lead for good over East with 2:01 to go on an 18-yard touchdown pass for the 29-22 win over the Aces.

Kapaun is 2-0, while East falls to 0-2.

Maize scored 26 unanswered points to beat Campus 29-10. Campus had the 10-3 lead at the half. Maize is 2-0.

McPherson had a balanced attack in its 44-0 win over Circle, scoring 20 points in the third quarter after taking a 10-0 lead at the half.

Jaytin Gumm had 112 rushing yards for McPherson, while Hunter Alvord was 9-of-14 passing for 178 yards.

Dylan Bougher had 110 rushing yards to lead Circle and Luke McGinnis had 184 passing.

McPherson is 2-0.

Andale beat Mulvane 32-6 to improve to 2-0. The Indians had a 16-0 lead at the half before giving up a touchdown midway through the third.

Northwest beat Heights 62-40 to earn its first win of the season and bounce back from a season-opening loss to Bishop Carroll.

The Grizzlies had a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. While they gave up two touchdowns to Heights in the second quarter, Northwest maintained that 21-point lead.

Conway Springs raced to a 14-0 lead in its 40-28 win over Remington. Izic Billups led Conway with three touchdowns — a 47-yard pass to Derrick Smith, 50-yard run and 10-yard run.

Braden Scribner had three touchdowns, two rushing, for Remington.

Billups had 166 rushing yards on 15 carries, while Brayden Kunz had 96. Scribner led Remington with 137 passing yards and 69 rushing yards.

Conway Springs improved to 1-1.

Maize South, after beating Salina South 51-14, is 2-0 and has outscored opponents 83-14.

Hillsboro beat Hillsboro 25-14.

Hillsboro took a 12-7 lead on Matthew Potucek’s touchdown run in the second quarter. Potucek’s TD pass to Frank Wichert gave Hillsboro the 19-7 lead in the third.

But after Hesston’s Ryan Eilert scored his second touchdown to get within 19-14, Wichert returned an interception 95 yards.

Potucek finished 13 of 19 for 126 passing yards, while Eilert was 24 of 33 for 206 yards.

Augusta edged El Dorado 21-14, forcing three turnovers to improve to 2-0.

On Cheney’s first three touchdowns in their 66-0 win over Belle Plaine, quarterback Harrison Voth threw for two and had one rushing TD.
