Derby cruised to a 41-23 halftime lead over visiting Bishop Carroll on Friday night but had to hang on for a 44-36 victory to improve to 2-0. Carroll is 2-1.

Junior defensive end Samuel Same helped clinch the victory with a sack, forcing a fumble.

Scott Simmons’ field goal with 4:42 to go gave the Panthers the eight-point lead. Carroll held Derby to three second-half points, scoring 19 unanswered points.

Running back Dylan Edwards had 15 carries for 185 yards with one touchdown. He also had a 93-yard kickoff return. Quarterback Mercer Thatcher scored the Panthers’ first two touchdowns.

Carroll quarterback Chase Smarsh threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Cheney beat Garden Plain 34-7 to improve to 3-0.

Kapaun improved to 3-0 with its 34-17 victory over Northwest. The Grizzlies are 1-2.

Kapaun outscored Northwest 27-7 in the second half.

Conway Springs spread the love around in its 50-0 win over Elkhart. Nathan Berntsen scored two touchdowns, while Izic Billups threw a touchdown pass and returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown.

Brayden Kunz also scored, as did Derrick Smith and Logan Warren.

Conway has won two straight.

Andover Central got the 35-13 win over Eisenhower to improve to 3-0.

Kai Kunz completed 13 of 25 passes for 229 yards, hitting Cooper Tabor seven times for 148 yards.

Ashton Barkdull had 122 yards on 19 carries, as well as two touchdowns. His longest carry was 68 yards.

Andover beat Salina Central 28-19, getting a 97-yard kickoff return from Tayton Klein in the third quarter after the Mustangs had pulled within two points.

Circle beat Augusta 42-35 to improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2010.

Quarterback Luke McGinnis completed 23 of 35 yards for 364 yards and five touchdowns. Ty Smith had 244 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Little River beat Goessel 66-20. Braxton Lafferty ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns.

Sedgwick’s Lance Hoffsommer threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns, while running for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the 65-6 win over SE-Cherokee.

Sedgwick had 694 offensive yards. Ryan Stucky had 159 receiving yards, Blake Hubert 116.

Maize South beat Hutchinson 28-14. The Mavericks are 3-0 and averaging 37 points a game.

Maize improves to 3-0 with a 54-10 win over Newton.

Andale beat Wellington 61-6. The Indians (3-0) have given up 12 points and have one shutout.
