State softball recap

For the first time since 2015, the Bishop Carroll softball team won the 5A championship, defeating Basehor-Linwood 4-3 at Wichita State. The Eagles finished the season 23-0.

Kadence Brewster and Anna Stephen contributed RBI hits in Carroll’s four-run rally in the third inning.

Brewster was also the Eagles starting pitcher and she escaped significant trouble in the sixth and seventh innings as Basehor-Linwood stranded runners in scoring position in both innings.

Carroll defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 4-0 in the quarterfinals and Eisenhower 3-1 in the semifinals. Eisenhower defeated Goddard 4-3 in the third place game.

3A

The Cheney softball team won their first state championship in school history after defeating Silver Lake 1-0 in the 3A title game.

Jailyn Adolph hit the go-head solo home run in the sixth inning.

The Cardinals starting pitcher, Korri Lies, struck out 13 batters in their 4-2 semifinal victory over Hoisington in the semifinals, then backed it up with a shutout performance in the finals.

Cheney finished the season 25-1.

Haven took third, defeating Hoisington 8-7 in the third place.

4A

Andale/Garden Plain fell to Wamego 6-2 in the 4A championship game. The Indians finished the season with a record of 21-4.

The Owls issued two walks and committed two errors in the first inning, which allowed the Raiders to score six runs.

While the Indians had their fair share of baserunners, they only managed a single run third and sixth innings.

Andale/Garden Plain defeated Eudora 7-2 in the quarterfinals and then defeated Holton 3-2 in the semifinals.
