State Boys Tennis Recap

The beat went on for the Collegiate boys tennis team, as the Spartans won their 25th state championship at Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita. Collegiate won the 3-1A title by 12 points over Kansas City Christian.

The Spartans’ highest finishes were the doubles team of Luke Swan and Charlie Dunne who defeated Owen and James VanderArk of KC Christian in the finals in four sets, while Nick Grabon fell to Alexander Scheer of Rossville in the singles finals.

Hesston took third behind the third place finish of its doubles team of Cole Deutschendorf and Micah Dahlsen.

5A

The Salina Central boys tennis team won its second straight 5A title and 13th title in the past 28 seasons, defeating Maize South by three points at Maize High School.

The Mustangs’ No. 1 doubles team of Reed McHenry and Max Shaffer won defeated the Mavericks’ duo of Garrison and Grayson Wright in the championship match, which proved to be the difference.

Central’s other doubles team of Brady Stack and McCabe Green took fourth.

4A

McPherson’s doubles team of Brennan Gipson and Conner Glazner did not lose a set on their way to a state championship. The Bullpups took second overall at the 4A Tournament in Topeka.

Jaden Fox of McPherson took fourth in the singles tournament.

Buhler’s Colton Lohrentz made it to the finals before falling to Kale Groff of Independence in three sets. The Crusaders took third as a team.
