Tonight’s football scores and recaps (Sept. 9)

After a blowout win in Week 1, Maize took on Andover Central and found itself in a dogfight early with a 20-14 halftime lead. 

Avery Johnson and the Eagles’ offensive attack proved to be too much for the Jaguars as Maize scored 22 unanswered with Johnson showing every ounce of his ESPN Top 100 talent. 

Maize is 2-0 after the 42-14 victory. 

 

Andale stays dominant in its 60-7 win over Rose Hill, the Indians’ 40th straight victory.

Gabe Prosser led the way with two touchdowns. 

 

Bishop Carroll had its way with Wichita South in a 50-14 win. 

Carroll quarterback Jackson King showed off his skills again in the air and on the ground. 

 

Derby easily won over Salina South after last week’s surprise overtime loss to Manhattan. 

The Panthers took care of business early with a 55-6 halftime lead as quarterback Brock Zerger ran for the game’s first two touchdowns and threw the third touchdown to Travon Rose. Dylan Edwards had a 57-yard touchdown run.. 

It was a much-needed win for the Panthers as they bounce back 69-20 to earn needed momentum to keep their title run aspirations alive. 

 

Wichita Northwest bounced back to its winning ways after a 52-6 victory over Wichita Heights. 

The two-headed running back monster of LJ Phillips and Cencere Thompson put the Grizzlies on their back early as the Falcons could not contain that Northwest backfield. 

 

Wichita East showed it’s for real after a 30-20 win over Kapaun. 

The Blue Aces’ Rayvelle Leak led the way with three touchdowns. 

 

Wesley Fair and Wichita Collegiate cruised to a 40-14  win over El Dorado. 

 

Andover responded to a season-open loss to get a 45-27 win over Arkansas City. 

After a 14-0 Bulldog lead, the Trojans scored 39 unanswered points. 

 

McPherson beat Augusta 42-7 with quarterback Hunter Alvord throwing for 132 yards and two touchdowns, and running for another two.

 

Cheney took care of Garden Plain 37-7 to improve to 1-1..

 

Goddard improves to 2-0 after beating Valley Center 30-7. 

 

Hutchinson keeps on winning close ones as the Salthawks beat Newton 32-27. 

 

Circle beat Buhler for the first time. Buhler had a shot to tie the score on a last-second field goal, but it fell short and Circle won 38-35. 

 

Maize South beat Campus 17-14 and is 2-0.

 

Kingman is 2-0 after beating Conway Springs 36-0.
