Tonight’s high school football scores, recaps (Sept. 30)

By Blake Chadwick

There’s no denying the Andale Indians’ football pedigree, including winning three straight state titles.

But just in case anybody forgot, the Indians put up 108 points in a shutout win over Nickerson.

By the end of the game, the score had to be zeroed out because there wasn’t room for all of Andale’s points.

Andale is 5-0.

For the 5A favorites, a whole week of trash talk has been the center of attention for the city of Maize as it geared up for the potential upset by the 3-1 Maize South Mavericks over the 4-0 Maize Eagles.

Headlining the matchup was Kansas State commit Avery Johnson for the Eagles versus sophomore quarterback Tate McNew for the Mavericks.

It would end up being just smack talk, though, as the Maize Eagles simply dominated from start to finish.

Johnson rushed for three first-half touchdowns and also added a 60-yard receiving touchdown on a double pass play from one of his favorite targets, Justin Stephens.

The Eagles had a 35-10 lead at halftime and was in cruise control as the sold-out crowd slowly dwindled down.

Maize won 63-26 to remain undefeated.

On the other side of the rivalry taking place in the AVCTL I, Derby traveled to Campus to take on the Colts.

The Panthers played spoiler to the Campus homecoming game as Dylan Edwards and company jumped out to a 49-13 halftime lead. Edwards had five touchdowns before the break, including a punt return for a TD. He finished with 150 rushing yards, while quarterback Brock Zerger had 98 rushing yards and a 33-yard rushing touchdown.

Derby won 70-13 and moved to 4-1.

Wichita Northwest continued to roll. The Grizzlies dominated 81-13 over the Topeka High Trojans.
Northwest is 4-1.

The Hutchinson Salthawks made easy work of Salina South with a 42-7 win. Noah Khokar led the way with two touchdowns for the Salthawks.

Hutch is 4-1 on the season.

Goddard improves to 4-1 on the season after a 20-14 win over Andover Central.

Circle bounced back after last week’s loss with a 37-15 win over Augusta.

Circle is 4-1.

Valley Center won a tight one over Salina Central 43-36.

The Hornets are now 4-1.

Kapaun Mount Carmel won its second straight with a 70-0 win over Wichita Southeast. Kapaun is 3-2.

Wichita East is 3-2 after a 54-8 win against West.

Chaparral remains undefeated after a 42-6 win over Douglass.

Kingman moves to 5-0 after a 28-0 win over Hesston.
