Osawatomie’s Jasper Sallee – Northeast Kansas Fan’s Choice Mr. Basketball – Presented by Shelter Insurance

Jasper Sallee’s basketball journey at Osawatomie High School isn’t just defined by stats, it’s defined by resilience, pride, and a relentless drive to improve.

A senior leader for the Trojans, Sallee built a career that speaks for itself. From helping secure a third straight Linn County Tournament championship to surpassing 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds, his impact has been both consistent and powerful. Add in a 40-point career-high performance and a key regular-season win over Burlington, and it’s clear his final season delivered moments that will be remembered for years.

But Sallee’s story goes deeper than numbers. His motivation has always come from something bigger than the game.

“My faith in the Lord, my teammates who depended on me and doing whatever it took to get better every season.”

That mindset fueled him through the highs and the challenges. Over the past couple of years, Sallee faced adversity, but instead of slowing down, he leaned into the grind.

“The last couple of years I had to fight through some tough stuff but the will to win and the love of the game kept my head up. To keep battling is all I know to do.”

That determination didn’t develop overnight. Much of it traces back to his biggest role model, his dad.

“My dad, he didn’t teach me a lot about basketball but he has taught me how to work hard for what you want and to be confident.”

That work ethic showed early. Sallee earned varsity minutes as a freshman, thanks in large part to the belief his coach had in him, something that stuck with him throughout his career.

“Coach Pitts was one of my biggest supporters and always let me be myself on the court. His confidence in me to play varsity my freshman year really inspired me to work on my development that off season.”

Sallee didn’t model his game after just one player. Instead, he became a student of basketball, studying everything from high school matchups online to the NBA, always searching for ways to sharpen his skills.

Off the court, his support system never wavered.

“My family and friends I could always count on being there no matter what. I am lucky to have had such a big group to cheer me on and keep me pumped up.”

Wearing the Osawatomie jersey carried meaning beyond wins and losses. For Sallee, it was about legacy.

“Representing OHS has given me great pride. I hope how I have carried myself on and off the court is an inspiration to the Trojans that come after me.”

As his high school career comes to a close, Sallee leaves behind more than milestones, he leaves a standard. One built on faith, effort, and the simple belief that no matter the obstacle, you keep battling.
