As her high school career winds down, Andover’s Chloe Gantz has focused on more than just wins and losses, prioritizing leadership, growth and lasting memories with her teammates.
“My primary focus this season was to finish out my high school career and make more memories with the team that I love that I can take with me to college and the rest of my life,” Gantz said. “I have enjoyed being a part of this program so much and I wanted to graduate knowing that I left the school the right way.”
As one of the team’s only seniors, Gantz has embraced a leadership role, working to guide a younger roster both on and off the field.
“Being one of the only seniors, my primary focus this season was to instill values in the younger players,” she said. “I love to be competitive and I love to win, but above all, I love to play the game and have fun, and I think that’s what it’s all about.”
Gantz’s impact shows up in multiple areas of the game. Defensively, she takes pride in her ability to cover ground in the outfield and make strong throws, while offensively she values her persistence at the plate.
“I would say that my strengths on the field are my range in the outfield and strong arm, and at the plate I battle very well,” Gantz said.
However, she places just as much importance on her presence in the dugout and during practices, where she sets the tone for her teammates.
“I think the strengths that mean the most to me happen at practice and in the dugout,” she said. “Since our team is so young, I know that I have a lot of underclassmen looking up to me to set the tone during games and practice, and I think that I fill those shoes pretty well.”
Heading into the season, Gantz aimed to become a dependable contributor in every situation, focusing on consistency and confidence.
“I came into the season wanting to be a steady contributor to the team — someone that my teammates and coaches could rely on every game and in every situation,” she said. “My main goals were to improve my consistency at the plate, play solid defense, and just be more confident in my overall role.”
