Goalkeeper and four-year starter for Campus High School, Avery Kassman is one of the hardest workers head coach Casey Reece has ever coached.
“She works hard training in the offseason and comes in every year polished and ready to go. Avery is her hardest critic and a humble leader. She will put every goal on her shoulders and keep encouraging her teammates. If you come to a game, you will hear her talking with her defense and the team nonstop throughout a game, helping us get organized. She is by far the most talented keeper I’ve coached on the girls’ side and, in my opinion, one of the best keepers in the state right now. She can be an equalizer and keeps us competitive in some games where we are giving up a lot of shots,” Reece said.
Over the offseason, some players take a break to work on their craft, but for Kassman, that is not the case.
“I play nearly year-round, only getting a small break during the summer, so when I’m not playing high school soccer, I’m playing for my club team. However, when I’m not actively playing, I try to go on runs and go to the gym. I also go to plenty of college camps to search for the college that would best suit me and my needs,” Kassman said.
Kassman’s main motivation this season is her teammates and focusing on her soccer career.
“When I play well and keep balls out of the net, it really hypes up my team and helps me to continue to get better for my future in college soccer,” Kassman said.
