Rose Hill senior Nick Bentley has spent the past nine years developing into a versatile sprinter, competing in the 100, 200, 400 and 4×400 relay.
“My biggest strengths are discipline and being coachable,” Bentley said. “My coaches put me in the 800 at the first meet, and I never complained about it.”
That willingness to accept any role has helped shape Bentley’s identity as both an athlete and a teammate.
Throughout his career, Bentley has built a reputation as a consistent competitor across multiple sprint events, focusing on effort and preparation rather than excuses. As a senior, his goals are centered on finishing strong and helping his team reach new heights.
“My personal goal is to make it to state one last time and get gold medals in my events,” he said. “My team goal is to take my teammates on the 4×400 to state for their first time.”
For Bentley, those goals carry extra meaning. Competing at a high level has long been a dream, and he now has the opportunity to close his high school career by chasing it one final time.
“What it means to be seen as one of the best athletes in the state is pretty cool,” he said. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to be the best there was.”
Beyond performance, Bentley values the relationships and respect he has built along the way, especially with his coaches.
“It means a lot to have my coaches say I’m a respectable athlete,” he said. “I’ve always tried to respect people and be the best I can.”
