For Jessa Losew, track and field at Buhler has never been about fitting into one event; it has been about competing wherever she is needed and excelling across all of them.
A senior who rotates between high jump, triple jump, long jump, the 200, 400 and both relays depending on the meet, Losew has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and consistent athletes in the program. While she competes in nearly every area of the track, her strongest performances come in the jumps and longer sprints.
“I am strongest in my jumps and longer sprints,” Losew said. “But I’m switching events all the time depending on what the team needs.”
That adaptability has helped fuel a standout career that spans six years of competition. Along the way, Losew has collected major accomplishments, including multiple appearances at the AAU Junior Olympics, four school records, several state medals and a state title in the high jump.
“My favorite highlights are placing at Junior Olympics two years in a row, setting school records and winning a state title in high jump,” she said.
Now in her final high school season, Losew’s focus has shifted toward continued improvement and preparing for the next level while still embracing the bigger purpose behind her competition.
“My personal goals are to continue setting PRs and get ready for Division I competition,” she said. “Most importantly, I want to share Christ’s love every step I take on the track.”
That perspective also carries into how she views her team. For Losew, success is not just about individual performance; it is about connection, energy and support across the entire program.
“Our team goal is to have fun, support everyone in every event and continue building amazing chemistry,” she said.
That culture, she believes, is what makes Buhler special.
“When a teammate is running, the whole team is cheering,” she said. “If a baton is dropped, instead of blame, there’s support. That’s what makes us successful.”
