Jaren Garrison isn’t focused on personal accolades entering his final high school football season. Instead, the Little River senior is embracing one last opportunity to compete with his teammates while helping the Redskins take the next step.
“I’m very grateful and excited for one more opportunity to play this game,” Garrison said. “It’s a once in a lifetime experience that can never be replaced.”
That appreciation has fueled a busy offseason. Like many of his teammates, Garrison has spent the summer building strength and speed while sharpening his individual skills in preparation for the fall.
“During the offseason we have our weights program, speed and agility training, team camps, and just working individual things by yourself,” Garrison said.
Little River is aiming to build on recent success by becoming a more disciplined football team. Garrison believes the difference will come from attention to detail and a shared commitment throughout the roster.
“This year we’re looking to be a more disciplined football team that doesn’t leave anything in the tank,” Garrison said. “Some things we do to improve on that is work that much harder at every little thing we do, and all around get everyone the same attitude towards how we’re gonna approach the year.”
That mindset reflects a team eager to rewrite its postseason story.
“The goals are pretty straightforward for our team this year,” Garrison said. “We’re not satisfied with how we’ve finished the past few years and are looking to change that.”
While the team’s goals come first, Garrison has already proven he can make an impact in every phase of the game. Last season, he accounted for 403 passing yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 722 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also added 79 receiving yards and two scores, showcasing his versatility on offense.
Defensively, Garrison was equally productive, recording 74 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, one interception and four pass breakups.
Despite those numbers, Garrison’s individual priorities remain simple.
“Individual all I care is to do what our team needs to be able to win,” he said.
