By the end of his sophomore season, Cy was starting on an extremely talented team. Cy earned some varsity minutes two years ago as a freshman, and is projected to be one of the top players in his class and in the State this year. Cy has worked on his game and on his body this offseason as much as any kid I’ve ever been around! There is no doubt he will command a lot of attention from opponents this year. He has continually developed his skills, his body, and his mind. We will all get to see the results from that work this year! Cy comes from an athletic family. He’s starting playing some summer circuits with the MidWest Magic last summer for the program’s first summer competing with Reno County kids. Garrett has been playing varsity for Nickerson since his freshman year and was thrown into a starting varsity spot sophomore year due to lack of upper class men. He was not ready, but showed flashes throughout the season and continued to develop himself as an athlete, basketball player, but more importantly as a young man. He is the type of kid that before home football games on Friday night I will find in the gym shooting by himself on the gun before going and supporting his friends on the field. He’s going to see the ball in his hand more as the primary ball handler more this year than in the past, but I think he’s ready for it and I’m excited to see him go out this season and display the work he’s put into his craft.” – coach Parker Bruce

“Alex is a young man that has all the potential in the world, but hasn’t put the complete package together yet. Standing at 6-3, he can play guard, wing and post. Has a beautiful natural shot, and has a solid handle to him as well. Stud in the weight room, jumping a 34.5 vertical and posting a 275 hang clean. Similarly to Garrett Crossman, he was thrown into the fire during his sophomore year and wasn’t quite ready for it. He has shown flashes of being a serious problem for opposing teams. Played a great mid-season tournament in the St. John Mid-Winter Classic last year and won the tournament MVP. Him and Garrett both will be major contributors for us this year, and if they can reach their full potential individually, together, and as a team we could be in for a fun year.” – coach Parker Bruce

Alvaro Leyva, Syracuse, Senior
“Alvaro is a dynamic senior point guard who has made a significant impact on the basketball court for Syracuse. With a deep understanding of the game and exceptional skills, Alvaro is a leader on and off the court, showcasing remarkable basketball knowledge, vision, and versatility. He is not just a facilitator; he is also a scoring threat. His shooting range extends beyond the arc, allowing him to stretch defenses and create space for his teammates. Whether it’s a pull-up jumper, a three-pointer, or finishing, he possesses a versatile scoring arsenal that keeps defenders guessing.” – coach Vance Keller
Jay Acosta, Hugoton, Senior
“Jay Acosta is a returning starter for the Kansas Class 4A State runner-ups a season ago. Jay’s role for our team is going to expand for his senior year with a loss of a great senior class last year. He has all the tools to become one of the classification’s best players with his ability to shoot the basketball, attack defenders off the bounce, and his ability to defend with his length.” – coach Trey O’Neil
Ayden McGibboney, Blue Valley Northwest, Junior
“Ayden is also a stand out both in football and basketball. He is a strong guard able to guard 1-5. He has a quick first step, rebounds well, and finishes through contact. Last year he helped us go undefeated in the EKL and win our substate. We expect the juniors to take a huge leap this year.” – coach Aaron Ihm
2023-24 stats: 4.6 points, 2 rebounds
Colt Hightower, Caney Valley, Senior
