Friday’s football recaps and scores (Sept. 2)

By Blake Chadwick

In the game of the night, Bishop Carroll took on Wichita Northwest in the annual battle of Tyler Road.

The Grizzlies came out firing on all cylinders with the two-headed monster of LJ Phillips and Cencere Thompson at running back.

Northwest was able to string its lead out to 31-9.

But the Golden Eagles flipped the switch as junior Jackson King led Carroll on a commanding 44-8 run en route to a 53-41 victory at home.

Highland Park ended a 65-game losing streak by beating KC Wyandotte 60-47.

Abilene ended a 25-game losing streak by beating Marysville 14-7.

Andover Central opened with a 35-13 over Buhler.

Andale looks to run the table again after a 63-14 win over Wellington.

History is always a great thing to be a part of. Kingman beat Cheney 28-14 in what is believed to be the first time in 100 years.

Manhattan edged Derby with a 26-23 overtime win as Braxton Frey hit a 25-yard field goal. The loss snapped Derby’s 46-game home winning streak. Derby’s Dylan Edwards scored on a 68-yard run and a 27-yard run and finished with 191 rushing yards on 19 carries.

Garden City beat Heights 36-26 in a game that ended well after midnight due to a three-hour weather delay.
