Jashawn Tolefree is a junior at Wichita North High School who is aiming high this track and field season with big personal and team goals. After a breakout first year in the sport, Tolefree has set his sights on qualifying for the state meet in the triple jump. This goal is fueled by dedication, discipline, and a strong offseason.
Last year, Tolefree made an immediate impact by jumping 36 feet, 2 inches at his very first junior varsity meet. That standout performance earned him a quick promotion to the varsity team, and it is one of his proudest moments so far in high school athletics. “It was my first year doing track and triple jump, so getting moved up to varsity meant a lot,” he told Vype Magazine.
This season, his personal goal is to qualify for the state meet, while his team is pushing for him to be ranked in the top 10 in the event. To get to State, Tolefree has been hard at work during the offseason, focusing on improving his vertical jump and building upper body strength.
Beyond track, Tolefree is a multi-talented student-athlete with big dreams. After high school, he plans to go to college and play college basketball. He is also passionate about football, singing, and cooking. Tolefree shows that his talents go far beyond the track and gym.
When asked what Tolefree was most looking forward to this year, “Definitely going to state,” he answered with confidence and determination. With his work ethic and drive, there’s no doubt Tolefree will be one to watch this season.
