Emporia’s Brylie Rodriguez – Pom Spotlight – Presented by Wichita Tractor

Every athlete has that one thing that fuels their passion, and for Emporia senior Brylie Rodriguez, it’s simple: “My favorite thing about being a student-athlete at EHS is being able to do what I love every day of the week!”

Rodriguez has been dancing since she was just three years old, and this season marks her senior year with the Spartanettes. “Being a Spartanette is special to me because I get to do what I love to do, with the people I love most,” she said. That combination of passion and community is what makes dance more than just a sport for her—it’s a lifelong love.

Her favorite style to perform is one that shows off her personality. “My favorite style to perform is sassy jazz! I love to smile when dancing and jazz lets me show that best,” Rodriguez said. The confidence she brings to the stage shines through in every performance.

But her impact at Emporia goes beyond the pom squad. “I am also involved in cheer, as well as the Spartan Club with the school!” Rodriguez said. Whether it’s on the sidelines, the stage, or in the classroom, she takes pride in representing Emporia.

Academically, she gravitates toward the past. “My favorite subject in school is history because I like to learn about what has happened in the world!” she said. She also credits her teacher, Mr. Irby, for keeping her motivated. “My favorite teacher is Mr. Irby! He always has a positive attitude and makes me feel heard!”

When it comes to inspiration, she doesn’t have to look far. “The person that inspires me most is my sister! She can always put a smile on my face and strives to do her best every day!” Rodriguez said. She also notes that former teammate Mariah Pearson left a lasting mark. “She always was so positive and a big role model!”

Away from pom and school, Rodriguez enjoys life’s simple joys. “My favorite thing to do in my free time is spend time with family! I love hanging out with my family because they make me laugh constantly!”

Looking ahead, she’s already planning her next steps. “After I graduate, I would like to attend Emporia State University and be on the dance team. I am pursuing my career in elementary education.”
