Last year, the Solomon Gorillas finished 11-10 and junior Calvin Mattison is looking to finish his first year as an upperclassman with a more successful season.
Mattison, a center for the Gorillas averaged 13.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks – all of which led the team. Now as a junior, Mattison hopes to build on that and become even more dominant for his team.
Looking into this upcoming season, Mattison is excited to get back on the court and grow with his teammates. He hopes the work he has put in in the offseason will help him with that.
“I have been getting shots up and taking workouts seriously,” Mattison said. “One thing that I want to improve on this season is my shooting ability.”
Mattison also has high hopes for this season and has some goals he wants to accomplish as well.
“I would like to get my first in-game dunk and a goal that I have for the team is we make it further in the playoffs than we did last year,” Mattison said.
With hopes to go far in the postseason Mattison is trying to make sure he soaks up every movement with his teammates.
“My motivation for this season is wanting to be there with the team every day of the week,” Mattison said.
