Fredonia’s Carleigh Compton – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Tammy Baker Shelter Insurance

By Angela Brunk

Carleigh Compton is a freshman ready to make her mark as she begins her first season of high school basketball at Fredonia High School. Compton plays the forward position and is eager to embrace the challenges and excitement that come with competing at the varsity level. For her, this season represents more than just games; it’s an opportunity to grow, learn, and become part of a close-knit team.

Compton is especially excited to experience real high school competition and build chemistry with her teammates. She looks forward to learning from the older players and improving as the season progresses. Her mindset is to work hard, have fun, and do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.

During the offseason, Compton stayed busy preparing for the year ahead. She attended basketball camps and participated in a summer weights program run by Fredonia’s men’s head basketball coach. One of her main areas of focus has been building confidence and consistency on the court. She worked on these by getting extra shots up, improving her ball handling, playing pickup games, and staying active to improve her conditioning.

Compton already brings strong production with her, totaling 138 points last season while averaging 9.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Her individual goals include improving every game, earning her role, and becoming a reliable teammate. Team-wise, she hopes Fredonia builds strong chemistry, competes every night, and continues to improve throughout the season.

Outside of basketball, Compton stays involved in volleyball, track, stucco, FCCLA, and other activities, while valuing time with family and friends. Looking ahead, she hopes to attend college and continue her connection to basketball, both on and off the court.
