Colin Shaughnessy – Axtell
A Breakout Star
On a defending state championship roster stacked with weapons, senior wing Colin Shaughnessy found a way to stand out even while coming off the bench. A 6-foot-1 guard/forward, he led Axtell in scoring last season and now steps into a larger starring role.
Head coach Jayson Tynon noted that Shaughnessy averaged 14.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 38 percent from three and 50 percent from the field and emphasized how he “bought into the role” of not starting despite his production and “never complained.” Tynon said he expects Shaughnessy to take 4–6 more shots per game this year and projects him in the 18–20 points per game range as he replaces two graduated 1,000-point scorers.
At Axtel, Colin Shaughnessy put together a standout season that highlighted his versatility and two-way impact on the court. He averaged 18.8 points per game, serving as a reliable scoring option, while also pulling down 7.5 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists per contest, showing his ability to affect the game in multiple ways. Shaughnessy was just as effective defensively, recording 3.5 steals per game and creating constant pressure on opposing offenses. He shot an efficient 51 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range, and 77 percent from the free-throw line, numbers that reflect both consistency and confidence. Altogether, his stat line paints the picture of a complete player who made his presence felt on both ends of the floor.
With Axtell returning four of its top six players from a 25-1 state title run, Shaughnessy’s shooting, improved ability to attack the basket, and experience with SSA Elite and college interest make him a central figure in the Eagles’ bid to stay at the top.
