Wichita Southeast’s Tyler Barnett – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Supplement World

Ending last season with a record of 31-8, Wichita Southeast junior Tyler Barnett is excited to show everyone the work he put in.

“What I’m most excited about for the upcoming season is the state tournament. I’m especially looking forward to it because I want to show how much I’ve improved from the previous year and prove all my hard work has paid off,” Barnett said.

Barnett’s skill is not the only thing that makes him such an asset to the team, head coach Kasdon Arehart is also appreciative of Barnett’s attitude.

“Tyler started wrestling his freshman year and brings a big heart in everything he does on and off the mat. His work ethic is truly what has got him to such a high level. He is the first one in the practice room and the last one out. Just who Tyler is, makes the room a better place,” Arehart said.

Looking to improve his mat control, Barnett spent a lot of the offseason training and conditioning.

“I worked on that by drilling specific moves and doing extra workouts. I put in extra mat time to sharpen and improve my control in live situations,” Barnett said.

As a leader for the Buffaloes, Barnett has big goals for his team.

“I try to lead by example through hard work, focus, and encouraging my teammates,” Barnett said. “My goal is for us to push each other to be better every day and make a strong run together.”
