Augusta basketball player Owen Roberts averaged seven points and four rebounds last season en route to an honorable mention all-league selection.
He knows he has to improve those numbers this season for the Orioles.
“I want to improve on being a reliable and efficient basketball player this year,” Roberts said. “I have been getting up a lot of shots and played a lot of organized basketball this offseason.”
Roberts’ offseason consisted of being in the gym as often as possible.
“I have been playing a lot of basketball with my teammates and have been working hard to get stronger and more athletic,” Roberts said.
Augusta finished last season 11-11, but returns a significant amount of talent this season. That has Roberts feeling optimistic.
“I’m most excited about the group of guys I’m playing with this year,” Roberts said. “We have great chemistry and have high hopes for the season.”
A successful season for Roberts would be to improve his statistics, while leading the Orioles to a deep March run.
“As a team we want to make as far as we can in the playoffs and we believe we a state champion caliber team,” Roberts said. “I want to improve in all major statistical categories and especially points and assists.”
