Neodesha’s Tony Landry – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Tammy Baker Shelter Insurance

By Ken Hansard

Neodesha Bluestreaks junior Tony Landry is approaching the upcoming golf season with confidence, determination, and a strong sense of leadership. After picking up the game only a few years ago, Landry has quickly developed both his skills and his passion for golf, setting high goals for himself and his team this spring.

Landry says one of the things he looks forward to most this season is the opportunity to compete alongside his teammates. “I am looking forward to playing with my teammates and competing in tournaments,” Landry said. “I see myself as a leader on my team, and I want to help everyone continue to improve.”

A major focus for Landry this season is qualifying for the state tournament. After his season ended at regionals last year, he has spent significant time improving his game to take the next step. “My main goal this season is to qualify for state. Another goal I have, which would help in my development toward qualifying at regionals, would be to medal at every tournament.”

During the offseason Landry completely rebuilt his swing in order to improve consistency and ball striking, putting in countless hours at the course to refine his technique. He also continues to work on staying confident through difficult stretches. “Last season and over the summer I fell into some golf slumps, but I’m just going to try to be confident and secure in my abilities and overcome any obstacles.”

One tournament Landry is particularly excited for is the team’s home meet in Fredonia. “It’s my home course, so I’m looking forward to that tournament because I’ve played it numerous times.”

Beyond athletics, Landry excels in the classroom and community. He holds a 4.0 GPA, scored a 25 on his ACT, and has earned honors including Wichita State Shockers Honor Scholar, Renaissance Scholar, and Keith Hersh Scholar. He is also involved in basketball, STUCO, Interact, and is a member of the prestigious National Honors Society. After high school, Landry plans to attend the University of Kansas and pursue a career in the medical field.
