As Paxton McLeod heads into his senior year at Andover Central, the veteran center and nose guard is embracing his role as both a leader and a competitor. After years of grinding in the trenches, McLeod is focused on setting the tone for the underclassmen and helping continue the legacy of a strong Jaguar football program.
“My individual goal this season is to be a leader for the younger guys and try to fill the shoes of the seniors that came before me,” McLeod said. “As a team, it’s about building that brotherhood from early summer through the end of the season.”
One game Paxton is particularly looking forward to is the rivalry matchup with Andover High. “We’ve had a winning streak against them, and I think we’ve got a great shot at keeping that alive,” he said. But beyond any one opponent, McLeod is savoring his final year with teammates whom he has grown close to over six years of football together.
His offseason reflects that same commitment. He was hitting the gym 5 to 6 times a week, attending camps, and showing up for summer weights with the team. That drive paid off last year when Andover Central took down powerhouse Bishop Miege to win the state championship and finished with a 12–1 record. “That was definitely a proud moment,” McLeod said. “Our O-line was one of the most dominant in the state.”
In addition to football, McLeod shines in other sports. He helped lead Andover Central to a 5A state championship in bowling and claimed the individual state title with an impressive 746 series. He also competes in track and field.
While Paxton’s college plans are still taking shape, his passion for football and bowling could open several exciting doors in the future.
