Buhler High School senior Cole Unruh is closing out his high school cross country career with a sense of accomplishment. This season marks the first time Unruh has been to regionals, a major milestone after six years of dedication to the sport.
“My big goal this year was to break 19 minutes,” Unruh said. “I did that at the Sterling Invitational with a PR of 18:49.3.” For Unruh, that moment represented years of steady progress and commitment to personal improvement. “I look forward to every race,” he added. “I take every race as an opportunity to set a new personal best.”
During the offseason, Unruh focused on building endurance through consistent training, preparing himself for his strongest season yet. That hard work paid off, not only with a new personal record but also with a spot on the varsity team. “I’ve worked hard these past few years,” Unruh said. “Even though I’m not the fastest on the team, I’m still proud of myself.”
Heading into regionals, Unruh aims to finish his senior cross country season on a high note. Both Unruh and his teammates have their sights set on the one shared goal of qualifying for state. “Our team goal is to fight hard this next meet and qualify for state,” he said.
Outside of cross country, Unruh is active in several areas of student life. He competes on the Buhler Track and Field team, participates in FFA, and recently earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Looking ahead, Unruh plans to attend college and hopes to one day start his own business or company.
