Jackson Jones, senior team captain of the Campus High School Scholar’s Bowl team, has built an impressive resume that should take him far in life. However, in the moment, he is simply trying to help his team to be the very best it can be, “My role as captain is to make our team a cohesive group of competitors rather than individuals with specific skills.”
After finishing last year on a low note because of illness, Jones is especially excited for the upcoming weeks of the Scholar’s Bowl competition season, “I’m looking forward to going back to some of the schools in our area and seeing familiar faces. I’m particularly looking forward to facing our rival, Derby, and to regionals. Unfortunately, I had to miss last year’s competition because I was sick.”
When asked about individual awards and efforts, Jackson remarked, “Scholar’s Bowl doesn’t usually give out individual awards, but I did letter on varsity last year, and one goal I’m focusing on is scoring at least 10 points per match, which is about 60-100 points per meet.”
Jones preferred to talk about the pride that comes from bonding with his team. Jackson embraces the team aspect of Scholar’s Bowl and enjoys bringing his teammates together to represent their school, “It’s important to have the entire group on the same page. I’m really proud of our team for being able to get a podium spot in a couple meets this year because it means that we have definitely improved.”
Scholar’s Bowl is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Jones’ involvement in the CHS school culture. He plays baseball for the Colts, He is the STUCO Student Body President. He is on the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council (Mayor) and is a Link Crew member, a P7 member, and an Environmental Club Member. Jackson has earned his Eagle Scout rank. He has been nationally recognized and awarded by both the Red Cross and Boy Scouts of America.
Academically, Jackson is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society and is in the IB program at Campus High School. He is currently on pace to finish as Campus High’s Valedictorian, with a GPA of 4.64 and a class rank of 1 out of 324. He scored an impressive 31 on the ACT.
As for his future plans, Jones says this, “I have been accepted to the United States Military Academy (West Point, NY), Wichita State University College of Engineering, and the Texas A&M College of Engineering. My dream school is the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, but right now I plan on going to West Point. Career-wise I want to be an Aerospace engineer in the military.
