Junior point guard Xoey Watie is stepping into this basketball season at Derby High School with confidence, leadership, and focus. Known for her defensive intensity and high basketball IQ, Watie is determined to take her game and the team to the next level.
“My goal this season personally is to stay consistent in vocalizing while on and off the court,” Watie shared.
“I would like to raise my three-point percentage,” Watie expressed. In addition to improving on stats, Waite is looking forward to building team chemistry and working cohesively to overcome any obstacles this season.
Beyond stats, she’s focused on mental growth, aiming not to let outside opinions affect her performance and to keep pushing her name forward for college opportunities. Watie is determined to build more confidence and reliability to showcase her game this season.
As the point guard, Watie embraces her role as a leader and playmaker. “I’m looking forward to leading my team in every step of the way as the point guard, making the best decisions when facing adversity, and celebrating our hard work as a family,” she said.
Off the court, Watie put in serious work during the offseason, from basketball training and physical conditioning to water aerobics and agility. Last season, Watie was named player of the game for her ‘elite court vision and suffocating defense’, a testament to her dedication and talent.
Beyond high school, Watie plans to play college basketball while pursuing a career in entrepreneurship/nursing. Recently earning her CNA license, she balances academics, officiating games at the YMCA, and maintaining straight A’s.
With her passion, discipline, and leadership, Xoey Watie is ready to make her mark on the court this season.
