Addicyn Martin is a senior at Erie High School and competes in the 140-pound weight class on the wrestling team. Wrestling has been an important part of her high school experience, helping her grow as both an athlete and a teammate. As she enters her senior season, Martin is focused on continuing to improve her skills while contributing to her team’s overall success.

Areas Martin is focusing on improving this season are wrestling from the neutral and bottom positions. “I struggle with confidence in taking shots and getting up off the bottom,” she shared. To address these challenges, she stays involved in wrestling during the offseason. Martin participates in club wrestling with coaches Jack Kennedy and Drayton Kennedy and attended a Purler wrestling camp held in Erie this past summer. These opportunities allow her to stay active in the sport and continue developing her technique year-round.

Last season was very successful for Martin. She became a league champion and qualified for the state tournament. Her personal goals for this season are to qualify for state again and place at the tournament. Her team goals align closely with her own, as she hopes every member of the team qualifies for state and places as well.

Martin is especially excited to see how much she and her teammates improve this season. With a new coach taking over the program, the team has already shown major growth. The team is very close, and the strong bond between teammates feels more like family than friendship.

Outside of wrestling, Martin is involved in volleyball, art club, Kay’s Club, and HOSA. After high school, she plans to attend LCC for the nursing program and pursue an apprenticeship in tattooing.
