Eureka’s Elle Coulter – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance – Steve Coulter

The Eureka girls basketball team made it to the Class 2A State Tournament last season and returner Elle Coulter thinks that is just the beginning.

“The absolute main reason that has me feeling excited about this season is getting the chance of being able to play for a team that is as cultured and family-like as the one I am proudly a part of,” Coulter said. “This team has done nothing but great things and we aren’t done yet.”

Coulter shot 33 percent from the three-point line, 64 percent from the free throw line and 58 percent from the field last season, so improving her defense was a priority throughout the offseason and an area she wants to see growth during the regular season.

“One area in my game I strive to improve is my defensive skills,” Coulter said. “During the offseason I was in the gym doing many workouts to strive and strengthen my defensive skills and sharpen my offensive skills as well.”

In order to accomplish the goals she has for her team; Coulter thinks how she and her teammates carry themselves on the court – in good times and bad is important.

“Some goals I have for this season are to push my teammates and myself every day in practices and in games, as well as to have good body language because that speaks volumes as to who we are as people,” Coulter said. “A team goal I have for this season is to build good and reliable relationships within our family as an advantage to play as one on the court for our success as a team.”
