Marion’s Wyatt Soyez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by 56 Express Tire & Service

By Hayden Swope

Marion’s Wyatt Soyez has been a two-time all-state track athlete, and is looking forward to seeing how his team comes together during what he believes will be a memorable year.

“I am most excited about the team as a whole this season,” Soyez said. “Unfortunately, we lost a great senior class that I was fortunate to have as role models throughout my high school career, also with the loss of our two great coaches Grant and Deanna Theirolf.”

Despite those changes, Soyez believes the team still has plenty of talent and exciting athletes ready to step up this season.

“This year will be one to remember with an exciting upcoming freshman, Landon Hendricks, that I got to watch when he was in middle school and he is an exciting kid to watch,” Soyez said. “Along with my two returning relay teammates Tripp Peterson and Jesse Snyder. This year will be new for everyone but that won’t stop us from exceeding our coaches expectations in each event as a whole team.”

During the offseason, Soyez focused heavily on improving his strength and conditioning to prepare for his final season.

“After football, I started lifting two times a day with our new head coach Shaun Craft,” Soyez said. “He pushed me to my limits each and every day to prepare for my senior year with my goals that I have set.”

One of his main priorities heading into the season is improving the start of his races.

“I’ve been looking to improve my explosiveness and my block starts,” Soyez said. “My coach had workouts that aimed to improve my power and acceleration out of the blocks that’ll improve my times since that’s my weakest part of my race.”
