After overcoming various injuries over the summer, Junior Lachlan McRae is making every game count this season with the Chieftains.
This summer McRae broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot and broke his nose, even though it was a little bit of a setback, McRae did not let that stop any of his progress.
“I had to work really hard to get back to where I was pre injury. It did require surgery and I have a giant screw holding it together,” McRae said.
McRae’s goal for every season is to prepare himself for the next level and last season he did so. McRae averaged 10 pts on almost 50 percent shooting from the field and 88 percent from the free throw line.
“My plans for college are undecided but hoping to get the opportunity to play at the next level somewhere. If that doesn’t work out I would like to stay involved with the game somehow by being a coach or agent and working up to try and be GM one day,” McRae said.
During the offseason even with the injuries McRae prepared himself for this season with his team and independently.
“In the offseason I play for Livin’ The Dream while also working out daily with a ball in my hand,” McRae said. “Outside shooting was an area I wanted to see progress and it did. 500 makes a day on the shooting machine helped grow my game along with pairing that with my quick first step to get downhill.”
McRae has been a varsity starter since freshman year and is on the road for 1000 points as well as one of the leaders for Tonganoxie.
“Lachlan is a very hard working and driven individual on and off the court. He is a three sport athlete (soccer, basketball, & golf),” Head coach Kenneth Simmons said. “Lachlan has been playing varsity basketball since his freshman year.”
